Pontiac Sunfire High Output Alternators

A Sunfire coupe is often somebody's first car, and that makes it the place many people install their first amplifier and subwoofer. This Pontiac Sunfire high output alternator collection lists two Mechman units for the 2.2L Ecotec in the 2002-2005 listing: a 240 Amp unit for a starter system and a 320 Amp unit with room to grow.

A First System Done Right

First audio builds tend to follow a pattern. A subwoofer and amplifier go in, the bass sounds great for a week, and then the headlights start dimming and the amplifier cuts out at stoplights. The cause is usually a small factory alternator that cannot keep up. Fitting a Pontiac Sunfire high output alternator at the start avoids that cycle, protects the amplifier from low-voltage stress and keeps the battery from wearing out early.

The 240 Amp unit is a good match for a single amplifier and one or two subwoofers. The 320 Amp unit makes sense if the plan already includes a second amplifier, lighting or a larger battery later on. Both are Mechman high output alternators from the GM Ecotec series, the same family listed for the Saturn Ion and even the Polaris Slingshot.

The listing covers the 2.2L Ecotec, so confirm your model year and engine in the vehicle finder above the products before ordering. Earlier Sunfires with a different engine will not match.

Complete the install with a proper kit from our amp wiring kits, and browse other Pontiac fitments on the Pontiac alternators page.
