Adding storage near the amplifiers is the core job of XS Power XP-Series secondary batteries. These AGM reserve batteries are not meant to start the engine; they hold energy close to the amps so voltage stays up during long, heavy notes. Choose 12V models from the XP750 through the XP3000, or the 16V XP1000 for raised-voltage banks.
A starting battery is designed to deliver a short, high burst to crank the engine. A reserve battery sits in the trunk or cargo area, connected to the main battery and the alternator, and supplies amplifiers through short power runs. With more storage near the load, the system sees less voltage drop across a long cable during demanding bass passages. Reserve batteries are usually connected through an isolator, or wired with fusing at both ends of the cable between front and rear, so a fault cannot damage the wiring or drain the main battery unchecked.
The 12V line steps up from the XP750 and XP950 to the XP1500, XP2000, XP2500 and XP3000. Larger systems often use two or more matched batteries in parallel; keep them the same model, voltage and age so they share the load evenly. Measure the space you have, including room for hold-downs and terminals.
Stay with 12V reserve batteries when the vehicle runs a standard charging system. The XP1000 is a 16V AGM battery for builds with a 16V alternator or a dedicated charger, and every amplifier on that bank must be rated for the voltage. Kit listings such as the XP750-CK, XP1000CK1 and XP1000CK2 are also part of the series; review each product page for its contents.
Mount each battery with a rigid hold-down, fuse every positive cable close to each battery, and ground to clean bare metal near the bank. 1/0 AWG power wire is common for the front-to-rear run in larger systems, and SuperBANK ultra capacitors can sit alongside the XP-Series secondary batteries to answer very fast current peaks. Start the build with a D-Series AGM battery up front, and see all AGM batteries for other options.
