Mechman high output alternators · Authorized dealer
Mercury stopped building cars in 2011, but its owners kept going: Grand Marquis drivers who value a quiet V8 cruiser, Mountaineer families who tow, and Sable owners keeping an early-1990s sedan on the road. Each Mercury high output alternator here fits a 1990-2011 model, and most come in billet housings with several finish options.
The Mercury Sable alternator page covers 1990-1995 cars with the 3.8L V6, in 170, 240 and 320 Amp. The Grand Marquis from 2005 to 2011 and the Mountaineer from 2006 to 2010 both use the 4.6L V8 and are listed with 240 and 370 Amp units. Select your model, year and engine in the vehicle finder so the grid shows just the units that fit.
The Grand Marquis shares its platform and 4.6L V8 with the Ford Crown Victoria, and it is popular with owners who want a roomy, durable cruiser with space for a big trunk system. The Sable is closely related to the Ford Taurus of the same years. Mountaineer owners who tow a camper with the 4.6L can step up to 370 Amp for trailer lighting, a brake controller and devices in the cabin.
Nine of the ten Mercury units use billet housings, machined from solid aluminum for stiffness and heat control. Finishes include black, chrome, machined, natural and polished, which lets a Sable or Grand Marquis owner match the alternator to a cleaned-up engine bay. For output, 170 Amp suits a factory-style system with one added amplifier, 240 Amp covers a component system, and 320 or 370 Amp handles multi-amp builds or a Mountaineer towing with extra lighting.
Mechman high output alternators need cable that matches. Add a wiring kit with Big 3 cables, a battery from our battery range and any needed parts from harnesses and regulators.
