Half-ton Ram 1500

The Ram 1500 alternator page lists every unit on this page, covering V6 and V8 trucks from the 3.9L, 5.2L and 5.9L of the 1990s through the 3.7L and 4.7L, the 5.7L Hemi and the 2013-2023 3.6L. Generations and engines are listed separately, so choose both in the vehicle finder before comparing output.

Ram 2500 and 3500 heavy duty

Heavy duty owners can go straight to the Ram 2500 and 3500 page, which covers the 5.9L and 6.7L Cummins diesels along with the 5.7L and 6.4L gas engines. Diesel trucks that tow, idle for long periods or run block heaters, auxiliary lighting and inverters tend to need the higher outputs. Plow trucks are a good example: the plow pump, strobes and headlights all run at low speed in cold weather, often with the blower on high, and a higher-output unit keeps voltage up through a long night of clearing lots.

Output and housing

A 240 Amp Ram high output alternator suits a half-ton with a light bar and a stereo upgrade. 320 Amp covers a winch, work lights and a multi-amp system. 370 Amp is aimed at plow trucks, upfit service bodies and diesel rigs carrying heavy inverter loads. Three units use a billet housing, machined from solid aluminum, and finishes are black or natural.

Cable, batteries and plugs

Mechman high output alternators need heavy-gauge cable behind them, so start with a Big 3 wiring kit. Dual-battery diesel trucks benefit from a fresh pair from our battery collection, and plug adapters and regulators are in harnesses and regulators. Ram units also appear with Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler on all Dodge, Ram, Jeep and Chrysler alternators, and every make is on our alternator collection.
