Amplifiers

Car amplifiers turn a weak head unit signal into the clean power that subwoofers and speakers need to play loud without distortion. This lineup runs from compact monoblocks around 100 watts RMS to competition amps far past 4,500 watts, plus 2, 4, 5 and 6-channel models from Sundown Audio, Crossfire, Audio Apex and Galeforce.

Daily drivers, powersports rigs and SPL walls all have a match here.

How to Choose Car Amplifiers for Your System

Start with what the amp has to drive. A monoblock amplifier is built for subwoofers: one channel, high current and stability at low impedance. Multi-channel amps handle speakers, with 4-channel models covering front and rear doors and 5-channel models running four speakers plus a sub from a single chassis.

Match RMS power at the final impedance

Ignore peak ratings. Add up the RMS handling of your subwoofers, work out the final impedance after wiring the voice coils, and pick an amp whose RMS rating at that exact load lands close to the total. An undersized amp gets pushed into clipping, and a clipped signal damages drivers faster than clean power does.

Plan the electrical system

Every watt comes from the battery and alternator. A rough current estimate is RMS output divided by system voltage, then divided again by the amp's efficiency. Moderate builds usually run well on a quality amp wiring kit sized to that draw and the length of the run, while larger systems call for 1/0 AWG wire, extra batteries and sometimes a high-output alternator.

Brands and Series in This Collection

  • Sundown Audio: SAEv4 amps for clean daily systems, SALT and SIA lines that scale up to competition power, SFB full-range models, weatherproof SDX amps and SAM powersports amps with Bluetooth on select models.
  • Crossfire Car Audio: C3, C5 and C7 series for street builds, CFM amps, the XT-6K and BMF monoblocks such as the BMF 8k and BMF 12K.
  • Audio Apex: the CAB-22 and CAB-45v2 monoblocks and the CAB-M165 5-channel.
  • Galeforce: a 4-channel option for speaker systems.

What to Pair With Your Amp

Choose subwoofers whose coil options let you reach a load the amp is rated for, and consider a remote bass knob so you can adjust sub level from the driver's seat. Refurbished Sundown Audio amps, which carry a 90-day warranty, are another way to stretch a budget. Whatever you choose, set gains with test tones and a meter or oscilloscope rather than by ear, because the gain control matches input voltage and is not a volume knob. Car amplifiers set up this way run cooler, sound cleaner and protect the speakers they power.
