XS Power Li-Series Lithium Racing Batteries

Shedding pounds from the chassis is the main reason racers choose XS Power Li-Series lithium racing batteries. The 12V range runs from the small Li-S545, Li-S680 and Li-S925 to Group 30/30L, 35, 51, 51R and U1R models, and 16V options include the Li-S680-16, Li-S925-16, Li-S1600, Li-D1600 and Li-D1600XR for higher-voltage race electrical systems.

Selecting a Lithium Racing Battery

Weigh the Load Against Capacity

A race battery is sized around what it powers between charges. A car with a working alternator only needs enough to crank the engine and support electronics, so a compact Li-S545 or Li-S680 can be enough. A total-loss car with an electric water pump, fans and fuel pump draws the battery down through a session, which points toward larger models such as the Li-S1200, Li-S5100 or Li-S30.

Voltage Choice

Some race cars run 16V for ignition, fuel and electronics rated for the higher voltage. In that case every component on the circuit must carry that rating and the battery needs a matching charging source, so the 16V models here are not a direct swap for a stock 12V system. Between rounds, use a charger with a lithium profile at the correct voltage.

Installing XS Power Li-Series Lithium Racing Batteries

Lithium batteries still need a secure hold-down, and many sanctioning bodies have rules about battery mounting, location and cutoff switches, so check your class rules first. Size the main cable for starter current and run length, and fuse it close to the battery with parts from our fuses and fuse holders collection. Avoid lead-acid charger modes such as desulfation or equalize, which do not suit lithium.

Comparing Other Options

Street cars with big audio systems are often better served by direct-fit lithium titanate models in the XV-Series or reserve banks from the TITAN8 lineup. Return to all lithium batteries to compare chemistries, or see AGM and lithium side by side in our car audio batteries collection.
