Ford Excursion High Output Alternators

An Excursion with a diesel under the hood is a tow rig first: horse trailers, toy haulers and big boats are what these SUVs were bought for. This Ford Excursion high output alternator collection lists four Mechman units for the 7.3L and 6.0L diesels, spanning 240, 320, 370 and 400 amps, with one billet unit in the group.

Charging Power for a Heavy Diesel Tow Rig

Diesels lean hard on their batteries, especially on cold mornings, and the diesel Excursion carries dual batteries that the alternator has to keep topped up. Towing adds trailer brakes, running lights and a charge line to the trailer's own battery. Many owners also add a winch, light bars, an inverter and a fridge for long hauls. A Ford Excursion high output alternator gives the diesel enough output to recharge after a cold start while still running towing and cabin gear.

From 240 to 400 Amps

These Mechman high output alternators replace the T-mount style unit on both diesels, listed for the 7.3L from 2000 to 2003 and the 6.0L from 2003 to 2005. Choose 240 or 320 amps for towing and accessories, 370 amps for a winch and lighting package, or 400 amps for a heavily equipped overland or work rig. One unit is billet, and finishes include black and natural. Confirm your year and engine in the vehicle finder above the products, since 2003 trucks can have either engine.

Dual batteries and new output deserve fresh connections, so see our alternator harnesses and regulators and batteries. Browse every Ford fitment on the Ford alternators page.
