A working Express rarely runs a big stereo, but it runs everything else. Cargo area LED lighting, amber strobes, a ladder rack light, a pure sine inverter charging drill and saw batteries, a laptop for invoicing and sometimes a small fridge for parts or lunch. Much of that happens with the engine idling at the curb. An Express high output alternator gives those loads real output, so the van starts reliably after a long day.
The vehicle finder covers 1996-2016 Express gas engines in two groups, sorted by the alternator plug. Vans with a 2-pin plug use one series, and vans with a 4-pin plug use another. Choices are 170, 240, 250, 320, 370 and 400 Amp. Lighting and strobes with a small inverter fit well at 240 or 250 Amp. A larger inverter used all day, plus a fridge and lighting, points to 320 or 370 Amp. Reserve 400 Amp for vans with heavy tool charging and a second battery. 170 Amp is a mild upgrade for light loads. For a fleet, pick one Express high output alternator rating that covers your busiest van and standardize on it.
Standard housings keep a factory look that suits fleet maintenance. Billet housings are machined aluminum and come in finishes such as black, natural, chrome and blue.
