Mechman high output alternators · Authorized dealer
The SS badge on an Impala means two different cars. The 1994-1996 5.7L is a rear-drive big-body sedan, while the 2006-2009 5.3L is a front-drive V8. Each needs its own Chevrolet Impala SS high output alternator, and Mechman offers both. Check your year first, then choose the output, and for the older car the housing and finish, that suit your build.
The mid-90s SS draws restomod builders. Common upgrades include electric fan conversions, a higher-flow fuel pump, modern headlights, gauges and a trunk audio system sized for a car this large. That alternator family comes in 250, 370 and 400 Amp, with finishes such as black, machined and natural. Billet housings are machined from solid aluminum and look sharp in a detailed engine bay, while cast housings stay closer to factory. These listings are marked custom fitment, so contact us to confirm your setup before ordering.
The later SS uses the alternator series built for GM's 5.3L front-drive V8 cars. Owners usually drive these daily and add an amplifier and subwoofer, sometimes with lighting. Plenty are also driven to car meets, where the system plays at idle for long stretches. A Chevrolet Impala SS high output alternator in 240 Amp suits one amplifier, while 320 Amp gives room for a multi-amp system. The Make, Model, Year and Engine search at the top of the page confirms which family matches your year.
Whichever SS you own, a Chevrolet Impala SS high output alternator needs good wiring. Our Big 3 and amp wiring kits and alternator harnesses and regulators cover the install. The 1994-1996 Caprice shares the older family and has its own page. These are Mechman high output alternators, and more GM fitments are in our GM alternator collection.
